The organization, who was established in 1994, has worked mainly on empowering women to end female genital mutilation (FGM) & violence against women (VAW), improving Reproductive Health & Rights and bridging the gap between Policy & Practice (advocacy).

Proclamation 158/2007. A Proclamation to Abolish Female Circumcision

On the 20th of March 2007, Eritrea adopted a law banning the practice of FGM/C. The law introduces a penalty of 2 to 3 years in prison and a fine of 5 to 10 thousand Nafka for those found guilty of performing FGM/C. If it causes death, the penalty is increased to 5 to 10 years in prison.
Those requesting the practice to be performed (parents, family members, etc.) are also punisheable with a fine and imprisonment from 6 months to 1 year.
