This press rooms will keep track of the various events that will mark the 2009 celebration of the Zero Tolerance Day against femal genital mutilation/cutting.

Based on a proposal by the Inter-African Committee on Traditional practices affecting the health of women and children, the 6th of February was adopted by the International community working for the abandonment of FGM/C as a commemoration for its commitment to not tolerate anylonger this violation of the human rights of women and girls.

The day has therefore been named "Zero Tolerance Day", and each year since 2004 a number of organisations use this day to raise awareness on the need to move forward on the path leading to a world where FGM/C will only be a memory of the past.
