Réprimer résolument la pratique des mutilations génitales féminines
Avis du Conseil fédéral sur le rapport de la Commission des affaires juridiques du Conseil national

Berne. Le Conseil fédéral est favorable à l’introduction dans le code pénal d’une norme réprimant de manière spécifique les mutilations génitales féminines. Une telle norme marquerait clairement qu’en Suisse ces mutilations sont proscrites ; en outre, elle serait de nature à favoriser la prévention de telles pratiques et à faciliter la lutte contre ces dernières. C’est ce qu’estime le Conseil fédéral dans l’avis sur le rapport de la Commission des affaires juridiques du Conseil national, qu’il a publié mercredi.

Italy - Foreign Affairs: Ambassadors' Conference states that ODA is more and more important for foreign policy
28 July 2010. The Conference of Ambassadors of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affair, despite severe cuttings of Italian ODA, with an anticipated cut of 70 per cent in 2010 compared to 2009, when ODA was already cut by about 50 per cent, states that development co-operation is a fundamental tool for foreign policy. Women are said to be a key actor for poverty reduction strategies and the work to promote the abandonment of female genital mutilation as a priority for the Italian government.

Iraqi Kurdistan: FGM fatwa positive, but not definitive
A religious edict by the Kurdistan Islamic Scholars Union on female genital mutilation (FGM) sends a clear signal that the practice is not prescribed by Islam, Human Rights Watch reports further on the different points of views but in conclusion recommends the regional Government to support opponents of FGM/C and also calls for development of long term plans to eradicate the practice.

Belgium: a Sierra Leonese woman facing excision risks to be expulsed

The asylum request of Theresa, a 27 years old woman from Sierra Leone who will face excision if repatriated, has been rejected by the Belgian government. She is actually detained at the Refugee Centre at the airport of Bruxelles - Zaventem and risks to be repatraied very soon.
