    Pokot leaders declare war on female cut
    This is newspaper article dated 19th July 2010 regarding a declaration the Pokot Leaders made at Ortum to end FGM/C and Cattle Rustling. They confirmed that these two issues are plaguing development within their region. This is a milestone for Pokot as last year, it was reported that it had the highest number of girls subjected to FGM/C.

    FGM, early marriages land Tarime girls into health trouble
    TARIME District in Mara Region (Tanzania) has recorded high number of fistula cases due to early pregnancies and female genital mutilation (FGM), according to various nurses and doctors at Tarime District Hospital. Dr. Kennedy affirmed: "For us to end this problem or to fight against fistula there is need for more education to the communities to change the culture of exposing young girls to early pregnancies and even female genital mutilation".

    Egypt: additional villages in the South join the governmental campaign for the abandonment of FGM/C
    Four additional villages have joint the "FGM Free Village Model" campaign promoted by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) in Egypt, bringing the total number of the villages involved in the program, supported by the Italian Development Cooperation agency in the framework of the debt cancellation program, to 65 of the 120 in the province of Assiut where FGM/C is widespread.
    Ms, Mouchira Khattab, Minister for the Family, gave the announcement on the 8th of July.

    The razor and the damage done: Female Genital Mutilation in Kurdish Iraq

    This is the story of a 17 year old girl who underwent female genital mutilation twice as a seven-year-old; once by a midwife in the morning, and the second time later that day by her grandmother, who thought the job, had not been done properly. Slowly, mothers in this village and, in some cases, the sheikhs who offer religious authority for the practice, are beginning to reassess their views. A key reason for this is the palpable harm that has been done to girls like Jiana.
