    In light of the 6th of february 2012, the "Zero tolerance" Day on female genita mutilation/cutting, a positive note on the abandonment of the practice in Africa comes from the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint program on FGM/C, in a note publishd in French by the Burkinabé daily newspaper Sidwaya and the online magazine Faso.Net.

    Bohra woman leads petition against female genital mutilation
    An Indian woman from an Ismaili Shia Muslim sect called the Bohras is leading a petition against the practice of female genital mutilation, which still exists in her community, it has been reported.

    Gambia: FGM Campaign Gains Momentum in Central River Region
    The campaign to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has taken roots in The Gambia through raising awareness and building consciousness amongst the people. The Gambia Committee on Traditional Practices affecting the health of Women and Children (GAMCOTRAP) has recently completed a series of training and information campaign activities held in Janjangbureh, Sami Karantaba Tabokoto and Chamen Nainija, all in the Central River Region north.
